Wendi Schneider Short-Listed for Royal Photographic Society International Exhibition and Awards

With over 4000 submissions received to the IPE 163 open call in early 2021, we are delighted to announce the 279 shortlisted photographers. The guest selection panel shortlisted 848 images from international photographers in 50 countries.

The International Photography Exhibition has been held almost every year since 1854 and is the longest running exhibition of its kind in the world. In the early years, the exhibition included work from some of the world’s most eminent photographers including Julia Margaret Cameron, Roger Fenton, Edward Steichen and Paul Strand.”

Wendi Schneider - Flamingo

Flamingo was recently honored by the Independent Photographer Awards, judged by Brandei Estes, Head of Photographs at Sotheby’s London. Flamingo will be presented at the Independent Photographer magazine’s annual International Gallery Exhibitions in Milan and Berlin in Fall 2021.

“Why Photography” presented by the Center for Creative Photography

Wendi appeared alongside a host of illustrious participants in the Center for Creative Photography’s (CCP) video “Why Photography,” as part of a virtual fundraising event supporting initiatives at CCP. At 19:05, Wendi discusses her experience working with CCP and the center’s important work preserving the history of photography.

Wendi Schneider’s “Lily Pads” Offered in Colorado Photographic Arts Center Benefit Auction

“CPAC has secured 28 outstanding photographs donated by 26 established artists. This is a fun and exciting way to build your art collection while supporting a great cause. “I have chosen six photographers for this showcase whose art runs a wide gamut of what “staged imagery” can involve. Several have found imaginative ways to transform the everyday through reinvention and abstraction, finding the power in the ordinary. While others seek to evoke a mood,  capture vanishing moments of beauty, or even include the presentation of the print as part of their staging.

A photo reviewer once told me I was a film-maker – and I think that describes these photographers as well. The desire to control what exists within and without the frame is at the heart of staged photography.”

Wendi Schneider’s “Patina Collection” in IF 6 at Rick Wester Fine Art

IF 6 is Rick Wester Fine Art Gallery’s first in-person group exhibition since before the start of the pandemic, signifying the beginning of a return to normalcy. In the same light, IF 6 brings hints of ecstasy, springtime and rebirth.

IF 6 is a visual representation of adaptability and perspective, with the title taken from Jimi Hendrix’s song, “If 6 Was 9,” which questions the possibility of another scenario. What would happen if 6 was 9, if the situation were reversed, if something you thought you knew ended up being something else entirely? It is a metaphor for the experience of the past year for most of us, everywhere.”

Wendi Schneider Juries “Flora” Exhibition for SE Center for Photography

“As I began my first of several journeys through the nearly 1900 images, I began to pull evocative images that made me feel something. These selections created the basis for the exhibition. It was a pleasure to have time to live with the images and to return to those that lingered in my memory. I looked for a variety of interpretations and processes, classical and contemporary, that worked together to create conversations. Ultimately there were more than a few that had to be eliminated in order to create a cohesive exhibition of only 40 images.”

Wendi Schneider to Juror “Flora” for Southeast Center For Photography

Artists throughout the ages have been drawn to the vast and varied world of flora. What moves you? Do you celebrate the essence of beauty or strive to heighten recognition of the perilous path of our environment? Are you inspired by a single bloom or a profusion of blossoms in a lush bouquet, enchanted gardens manicured or messy, plants endangered or invasive, carefully cultivated or sown by nature, bursting forth or shriveling on a vine?

We’re looking for flora, all types from a single stem to a vast landscape, still life, formal gardens, or vegetation gone wild. Color or monochrome, analog, digital or antique processes, photographers of all skill levels and locations are welcome.

Deadline for submissions is March 7, 2021.
