“Process as a Search for Serenity” with Wendi Schneider
“Process as a Search for Serenity”
Los Angeles Center of Photography
Online Learning Series
Saturday, March 27, 10:00 am – 11:30 am PST
In this webinar, Wendi will discuss her artistic process, which fuses digital techniques with hand-gilding. Schneider’s process is heart-driven by a search for grace and the elusive ‘glow of flow,’ when the awareness of time and space disappear. Using her own work as reference, Wendi will showcase a series of images at several points in the production process to tell the story of an image from capture to completion. Rather than a tutorial on her image-making techniques, Wendi will discuss the path that has led her to her chosen form photography and print-making, and share how she uses her process to find serenity.

Wendi Schneider Featured in Artdoc’s Virtual “Japanese Garden” Exhibition
In hectic times, nature always has a positive effect on the human mind. Nature brings reflection and tranquility. After experiencing nature, we can look at life from a different perspective. In our Japanese Garden exhibition, art photographers show the natural world with their sense of serenity.

Wendi Schneider Interviewed by Denver Women Magazine
“Wendi is widely known for her ongoing series of hand-gilded photographs, States of Grace –– illuminated impressions of grace in the natural world. Drawn to the serenity she finds in the sinuous elegance of organic forms; she embraces photography to preserve vanishing moments of beauty in our vulnerable environment. She has perfected a gilding process in which her images seemingly dance on the paper’s surface amidst reflections of light on precious metals, creating a synthesis of technique and subject.”

Wendi Schneider Featured in The Royal Photographic Society Visual Arts Magazine
Wendi Schneider was a Featured Photographer in the 158th Issue of Visual Art, the magazine published by England’s Royal Photographic Society Visual Art Group. Many thanks to the Royal Photographic Society for this wonderful feature.
“I was in New Orleans last year and found ‘A Gallery for Fine Photography’ and it was here, among a fantastic selection of images, that I discovered the work of Denver-based artist Wendi Schneider. Her work literally shone out, by the use of precious metals to gild the reverse of her work, she creates other-worldly representations of the environment around us. I admire the way she has produced a beautiful body of work in a unique and magical way.“

She turned to photography in the early 1980s to create references for her paintings, then combined the mediums…”

Wendi Schneider featured in Catherine Couturier Gallery’s “Safe in the Studio” Series
“My practice has not shifted measurably in the time of Covid-19. I turn to nature to dwell in serenity amidst the chaos, for it is there I find sanctuary and respite. I am transfixed and transformed when I capture impressions of fleeting grace in the natural world. Calmed by fluid, organic shapes reminiscent of the elegant whiplash lines of art nouveau botanicals, I photograph intuitively.“
Wendi contributed a post to Safe in the Studio, a weekly series created in response to the pandemic, where artists offer insight into their work and artist practice.
