Held Light, a new exhibition of fine art photography by Wendi Schneider, is on view at A Gallery For Fine Photography through August 1, 2026.
This New Orleans photography exhibition features hand-gilded photographs created in Venice and Florence. Printed with pigment ink on Japanese kozo and finished with hand-applied precious metals, these works are known for their luminous surfaces, shifting in tone and atmosphere as light moves across them.
Rooted in the atmospheric traditions of early twentieth-century photography, Held Light emphasizes mood, tonal restraint, and the interplay of light and surface. Rather than documenting place, the images offer contemplative impressions shaped by stillness, perception, and the quiet persistence of light.
Each photograph is realized as a unique variant, with subtle differences in materials and gilding, making every piece a singular object. Works are presented in antique frames, extending the dialogue between image, material, and time.
